A B O U T

Basics: X-Play (previously GameSpot TV and Extended Play) is a video game review show. The program airs on G4 in America, on G4techTV in Canada, Fuel TV in Australia, and Jack TV in the Philippines. The show is hosted by Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb. Sessler is the original host of the program; he has co-hosted in the past with Lauren Fielder and Kate Botello. X-Play began on ZDTV in 1998 as GameSpot TV where Sessler co-hosted with Fielder for the show's first year, then co-hosted with Botello up through 2002. The show was renamed to Extended Play in 2001 after ZDTV changed to TechTV and the partnership with Ziff Davis' GameSpot ended. Botello left in early 2002, and Sessler hosted the show by himself up until April 2003, when Webb joined the cast and the show was renamed to X-Play. It is the only original TechTV show to entirely survive the May 2004 merger of G4 and TechTV. It is the highest rated originally-produced program on G4. In 2005, X-Play's Guide to Gaming, which featured printed versions of reviews published online and interivews with behind-the-scenes personnel and Adam and Morgan, was published. In late 2007, X-Play changed formats again to encapsulate the show "Cheat", and to add gaming news and demonstrations. It took on a slightly more serious tone as it delivered gaming news. Sets and Locales: The current set is the eighth version used. X-Play was originally broadcast from San Francisco; when G4 bought Tech TV, the crew moved to LA. A big deal was made of this, with episodes "aired live from Adam's apartment" filling in for the San Fran studio during the move.
