GENERAL HISTORY: W.Seymour Skinner is a Springfield native and Principal of Springfield Elementary. A Vietnam Vetran with post-traumatic stress disorder (A Sgt. First-Class in the Green Berets, he was held prisoner in a tiger cage in DaNang, and eventually recieved a metal plate in his rear end), he believes in order, stifling rebellion, and cutting financial corners wherever he possibly can. He's notoriously controlled and perhaps a tad dull. RELATIONSHIPS: FAMILIAL: Skinner's primary relationship is with his mother, Agnes, a smothering, controlling woman. Seymour is a true mama's boy and is at Agnes' beck and call - so firmly tied to her apron strings that she takes prescedence over any and everything in his life. His father, Sheldon, died when Skinner was younger, and he's sensitive still about losing him. RELATIONSHIPS: SPRINGFIELD ELEMENTARY: At school, Seymour recieves little respect - the children at Springfield Elementary often enjoy mocking him. Chief among his antagonists is Bart Simpson, with whom he has constant conflict. While they're natural advicaries and Seymour has done more than his fair share of foisting Bart on others, Seymour seems to have a grudging respect for Bart, and tries to push him to aspire to greater heights. His facculty has even less respect for Seymour, going from outright rancor to grudging respect. Besides Edna Krabapple, he's closest to Groundskeeper Willie, with whom he has a rancorous but strong partnership. He tries desperately to impress Superintendent Chalmers whenever he visits the school. RELATIONSHIPS: TOWN OF SPRINGFIELD Due to his intense relationship with his mother, Skinner doesn't seem to have many friends. He was in the Bee Sharps with Homer Simpson, Apu, and Barney Gumbell, and sees the parents of the children of Springfield Elementary socially. RELATIONSHIPS: ROMANTIC: Seymour's had two major romantic entanglements; the first with Patty Bouvier in "Principal Charming." Intensely attracted to the woman, Seymour let Springfield Elementary fall to disrepair while he courted her. Patty, however, was initally repulsed by Seymour - then, when she finally came around to his advances she realized that their relationship was doing her sister Selma (who had initially been set up on a date with Seymour by Homer) emotional harm. They broke up and Seymour foccused his love on the school. His longest-term relationship has been with Edna Krabapple, whom he began dating in the episode "Grade School Confidential". Though they faked a break-up in that episode to protect their jobs (Skinner even procclaimed that he was a virgin), they continued to date for seaons afterward, leading to Seymour proposing to Edna in the episode "Special Edna." They proceeded toward the aisle rather slowly - the wedding was called off during "My Big Fat Geek Wedding," when Edna tired of Seymour's focuss on his mother. She briefly dated the Comic Book Guy before becoming a free agent. Seymour has reacted badly to their break-up, continuing to persue her. THE ARMEN TAMSARIAN CONTROVERSY: In the episode "The Principal and the Pauper," it was revealed that Seymour Skinner...wasn't Seymour Skinner. Actually a rebellious teenager named Armen Tamzarian, he served under Seymour Skinner in Vietnam. When his commander was lost in action, a distraught Tamzarian returned to Skinner's mother Edna and posed as her son. When the real Skinner came back to town, Tamzarian tried to resume his old life (and Skinner did the same), but Agnes wasn't pleased by her biological son's independent streak, and Armin had come to find his rebellious old life was not longer a clean fit. The "real" Seymour Skinner was run out of town on fraud charges, and the town decided to delcare that "nothing" that had happened would ever be mentioned again.
