A B O U T

Seth Woodbury MacFarlane was born on October 26th, 1973 in Kent, Connecticut, and is an Emmy-winning American animator, screenwriter, producer, director, and voice actor. He has a younger sister, Rachel (best known as a voice actress and the talent behind Hayley Smith on Seth's show "American Dad"). He is currently the highest-paid writer in television history.

MacFarlane received his diploma at the Kent School in Connecticut, whose headmaster later publicly rebuked MacFarlane for his "low" brand of humor and requested Fox not air Family Guy (MacFarlane's parents, who both taught at the school, resigned in protest.). Seth has a strong interest in musical theatre and performed in local productions with his sister - he's also a skilled pianist and singer who, as a young man, worked with the same vocal coaches as Frank Sinatra.

He graduated from the RISDI school in Rhode Island, where he created the student film "The Life of Larry". After graduation, he was hired by Hanna-Barbera Productions and later worked as an animator and writer for Cartoon Network's Cartoon Cartoons series, which included Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Laboratory and Cow and Chicken. He was also a writer for the animated version of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

In 1996, MacFarlane created a sequel to The Life of Larry for Hanna-Barbera Cartoons called Larry and Steve, which featured the bumbling middle-aged Larry and his highly intelligent dog Steve. The short was broadcast as one of Cartoon Network's World Premiere Toons. Executives at FOX saw both Larry shorts and contracted MacFarlane to create a series based on the characters.

Immediately before starting Family Guy in 1998, Fred Seibert (who brought MacFarlane to Hanna-Barbera) asked him to write and produce a short titled "Zoomates" for Frederator Studios' Oh Yeah! Cartoons on Nickelodeon.

"Family Guy" Debuted on Fox in 1999, and went on to be cancelled twice before immensely popular DVD releases and reruns on Adult Swim Ressurected interest in the show, Fox contacted MacFarlane and they put together the show "American Dad" before ressurecting "Family Guy" once more. Both shows are currently running on the Fox network Sunday nights, and air as part of the Adult Swim lineup at various times (Family Guy is also in syndication and airs on TBS).

Seth co-created the live-action sitcom "The Winner", which aired on Fox as well, though was cancelled before it completed its first season.

Seth has also created the "Family Guy" spin-off, "Cleveland", which will debut as a mid-season replacement in 2009 for Fox.

Outside of his own shows, Seth has done voicework for "Robot Chicken", and has appared as a live-action actor in Star Trek: Enterprise, The War at Home, Mad TV, and The Gilmore Girls. He voiced the character "Johann Kraus" in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

Seth has won Emmys for voice work in the FG episode "Brian The Bachelor" and for writing the song "You've Got a Lot To See" for the FG Episode "Brian Wallows and Peter's Swallows". He's also got an honorary degree from Harvard. -with help from wikipedia.com
