Reno911! Began airing in 2003 on Comedy Central in the US. A mock-reality series which parodys Fox's COPS which is partially improvised by the actors, it follows the adventures of the fictional Washoe County Sherrif's department in Nevada.

The Main Characters Are:

Lt. Jim Dangle: defacto head of the squad - wears regulation shorts, is openly gay, has his police bike constantly stolen and vandalized, and dreams of breaking out and becoming an actor or singer. Lost his fiance to a manipulation by Garcia in Season 4's finale, then did time in prison as gay marriage is against the law in the county as of the moment. Ardently persued by Trudy, whom he once dated but now spurns, disgusted by the changes in her caused by a depravation of oxygen to the brain while on duty; attracted to Jones, who refers to his advances as sexual harrassment.

Dep. Trudy Wigel: Emotionally unstable, neurotic and yet rather genial and enthusiastic, all of Trudy's pets are stuffed, and she once faked a nervous breakdown to get attention from her collegues. Was in love with executed Trukee River Serial Killer Craig Pullins, but he's not the father of her baby, which was born in the final episode of Season 4. Trudy was set to reveal the father before season 4 faded out. Unfortunately, Trudy quickly sold her son to the highest bidder - Junior pretended to be the baby's father but was in on her adoption scam. As a running joke, her last name is spelled a different way every time it's written on a kyron in Season 1. Carries a major torch for the openly-gay Jim, and got her chance with him in season 5 when the bullet-proof vest she (and the other) female officers wore caused her to become irrisistable to all of her male colleagues; it was revealed in season six that she and Jim had been lovers back in the 80's, when Trudy was once a fully functioning, mentally stable person. It was revealed that she reverted to her current state due to her brain being deprived of oxygen when she was trapped in a fire. Had a one-day affair with Dept. Rizzo.

Dep. Clementine "Clemmy" Johnson: Ex-showgirl/magician's assistant with big hair and loose morals - when she was forced out of the squad briefly, she became a groupie for Steely Dan. Is pro-pot and a wiccan. Has had liasons with Garcia and Jones. Died when the department's float crashed into the Tacos Tacos Tacos during the season five cliffhanger finale.

Dep. James Garcia: Racist, sexist and living in a Burt Reynolds movie from the mid-70's, Garcia is probably the squad's only true cop-for-life. Has a lonely off-duty life and a daughter whom he hasn't seen in years. An ex-Marine, he's oddly philosophical on occasion, and believes much of what he says is far deeper than it is. Had an affair with Clemmy, and is involved in a quasi love triangle for her affection with his partner Jonesy. Died when the department's float crashed into the Tacos Tacos Tacos during the season five cliffhanger finale.

Dep. S. "Jonesy" Jones: A smooth lady's man with quite the singing voice, Jones also has aspirations of gaining a career in showbusiness. Has slept with Clemmy but is desired by Raineesha; frequent rival of beat partner Garcia. May be the father of one of Raineesha's kids.

Dep. Travis Junior: Lives in a trailer park, married a mail-order bride against her will, and worked in a traveling carnival during his downtime, Junior is a redneck and he's proud of it. He trains police dogs for the department, but they don't seem to like him. Found out he's a cousin of Kimball's just before convincing her to take him to bed, but has continued to persue her, and when she briefly sported a bullet-proof vest that made her alluring to the other male officers, was set to propose to her. Wears his bullet-proof vest on the outside of his uniform because he's too drunk every morning to put it on correctly.

Dep. Raineesha Williams: Sassy and filled with attitude, Raineesha's been around the block, as evidenced by her many children, and has her own brand of wisdom thanks to it. And she's not scared about sharing it - even if you don't ask her. Was involved with Jones, who doesn't want her back. According to Jones, her legal name is Megan.

In season three, Officer Cheresa Kimball was added to the regular cast. She's a million times more serious and efficient than any of the other cops. In season four, we learn that she is a former criminal who turned her life around and who has converted to Christianity. The other officers gossip that she is lesbian - and the movie posits that she may be, but for the most part she denies it. Found out she's a cousin of Junior's just before she took him to bed out of sympathy when he was "wounded" in action; he continues to persue her on and off. Died when the department's float crashed into the Tacos Tacos Tacos during the season five cliffhanger finale.

After the deaths of Jones, Garcia and Kimball in season six's finale, the show added two new regular characters

The first, Dept. Frank Rizzo, is an intense Brooklynite who's left every post on his watch under bad circumstances. He often uses his work as an excuse to indulge in his baser instincts (drug abuse, mainly). Had a one-day affair with Trudy when they were trapped together in a trailer.

The second, Detective Sergeant Jack Declan, is uberserious and seemingly very fond of delivering speeches. He seems to have a heart condition.

Reno is filled with regular perps and supporting players whom the gang end up seeing over and over again. Most prominant among them are Terry Bernadino, the roller-skating orange-selling hooker, who out-foxes the unit constantly while giving "tug jobs" at various fast-food joints - after a brief stint as a (very bad) roller-skating waiter at Tacos, Tacos, Tacos, Terry's returned to hooking to support his wife-to-be Seeeemjiii (who's pregnant with his baby); Tee-Tee, who's often arrested for public disturbances screaming incoherently in a tee shirt and curlers; The Bachelorette Party Girls, who're always loud and forever causing a ruckus at the local motel; Big Mike, a frequently injured and drug-addicted dirtball (and former Reno lutenient); Boozenhammer of Galen, who takes his roleplaying VERY seriously; Craig, Trudy's intended and the accused Trukee River Serial Killer - now deceased; Chief Carl, a mystical homeless man; The Delicious Milkshake Man, who meets with an untimely end in season two which results in the entire department going to jail; The Dominatrix, who may or may not have a thing for Kimball; Frisbee and his clan, who're forever preparing for the apocolypse; Debbie Dangle, Jim's once-overweight wife who often ends up married to barely-closeted men (deceased); Guy, Wigel's enthusiastic birthing coach in Season 4; Mike Powers, the ex-district attourney who doesn't QUITE manage to railroad the gang in season two but turns out to have decapitated a bunch of hookers, which sends him to prison in season 3; Mayor Hernendez, he of the shady dealings and drunken and pregnant wife; Cindy The Sex Slave, an intern rescued from her former life when she was discovered stuffed in a suitcase but who slips back into her old ways thanks to her inability to understand that "due proccess" isn't a code word for a sex act; the always-naked redneck; the Reno Fire Department, thorn in the side of the sherrif's department; Jackie, a pickle-throwing hooker who delighted in tricking the force, was Wigel's cousin, and tangled with Garcia - deceased; Maria Storm, newscaster; Principal Mandeville, who can't get her kids to behave, ever; Tommy Hawk, bounty hunter; The wildly incompitant Washoe chapter of the Klan; The Ren Faire Players, who try to stick as closely to character as possible; The Hypothetical Criminal, who's always wondering what, hypothetically, is going on; And who can forget Joe, who's filming this whole thing?

Comedy Central is set to begin airing the sixth season of Reno911 on April 1st, 2009. A companion movie, "Reno 911!: Miami", was released in theatres on February 23rd of 2007 and released on DVD on June 19th of 2007 - HBO and Comedy Central have the cable rights. All five seasons of the show have been released in the US, and Reno911! is currently in syndication internationally, airing at various times, usually in the late evening weekdays.
