A B O U T

Natalie Louise Maines Pasdar was born on October 14th, 1974 in Lubbock, Texas to country music producer Lloyd Maines.

Of a rebellious attitude seemingly from birth, Natalie attended several colleges, including the Berklee College of music, only to drop out. On returning to Lubbock she was recruited by sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire to replace the recently-departed lead singer in their band, The Dixie Chicks.

Changing their image both lyrically and stylistically, the group took off with Natalie as lead singer. They earned over thirty Grammy nominations from 1998 to 2007, and their albums "Wide Open Spaces," "Fly", "Home" and "Taking The Long Way" have all gone double platinum.

All of that success hasn't come without controversy; Natalie's an outspoken political firebrand and has attracted attention - negative and positive - since joining the group.

First she expressed support for medicinal marijuana, ruffling the feathers of more conservative country music fans, during an episode of "Politically Incorrect with Bill Mahar".

Then Natalie feuded with conservative country star Toby Keith over his song "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue". He displayed a photo manipulation of Natalie being hugged by Sadam Hussien on the big screen at his concerts; she wore a teeshirt bearing the initials "FU TK" to awards shows. Keith declared a truce sometime around 2003 but he refuses to speak her name in interviews.

Finally, and most infameously, Natalie stated she was ashamed President George Bush Junior was from Texas during a concert in London thirteen days before the US invaded Iraq. This led to The Chicks being banned from country radio, recieving death threats and generally feeling the sting of the conservative culture of the country music establishment.

The Chicks rose up from the ashes with "Taking The Long Way." "Not Ready TO Make Nice" was a direct response to the intense pressure the band was under and it broke the scrutiny foccused on the group by reaching #11 on the charts and winning them a Grammy for Record of the Year. Another direct result of the controversy: The doccumentary "Shut up and Sing" which chronicles the Band's problems of that era.

As a solo artist, Natalie took her first step when she provided background vocals on several tracks for Sheryl Crow's "Come On, Come On," and she's gone on to provide background vocals on various projects for Stevie Nicks, Yellowcard, Patty Griffin and Pete Yorn.

Currently, Natalie is maried to actor Adrian Pasdar. They have two sons, Jackson and Beckett.
