"A Muppet Family Christmas" debuted in 1987. It was the first production to star characters from all four (At the time) Henson franchises: "The Muppets", "Sesame Street", "Muppet Babies" and "Fraggle Rock". The special was a huge hit and re-aired the following year, then aired repeatedly on Nickelodeon and The Disney Channel. Synopsis: Fozzie Bear has promised the Muppet gang a real old fashioned Christmas at his mother's farmhouse in the country - too bad Emily Bear presumed he'd be staying away and booked a vacation to Hawaii, renting the farm to Doc and his dog Sprockett of "Fraggle Rock" fame. When Fozzie shows up with his friends - rappidly followed by the caroling Sesame Street gang - Ma Bear immediately welcomes them and cancels her plans. Doc finds himself sharing bunk-beds in the broom closet, Fozzie finds the perfect partner in a talking snowman, the Sesame Street Gang puts on a Christmas pagent, the Gang watches old home movies of themselves (featuring the Muppet Babies as puppet characters for only the second time in the franchies' history), Kremit and his nephew Robin visit the subterranian Fraggle Rock-ers, and The Swedish Chef tries to cook a plump, juicy bird for the festivities - first the new character Turkey and then the innocent Big Bird. But soon a blizzard kicks up, and Kermit notices that a certain someone is absent - Miss Piggy. Will she make it through the storm okay? Fun Fact: The commercial release of the special in the US eliminates several fun moments: the Muppet Baby home movie and Miss Piggy's big enterence, just to mention two. This is due to music clearence rights and mild editing to match airtime constraints. Fans have been petitioning for a complete version with bumpers for years now. To view the eliminated clips, head to A Very Muppety Christmas.
