About The Soundtrack: This album/CD was released in coordination with the July 2007 theatrical release of the movie Hairspray. It ranks as the top independent release of 2007, has sold over one million copies, debuted at #20 on the Billboard charts and went on to peak at #2, and is RIAA platinum certified... There are two different versions of the soundtrack availible - the original version and a two-disc special edition released in November of 2007 that includes vocal demos and the excised number "I Can Wait". There's also the ITunes digital download version, which includes "I Can Wait" as a bonus track. CHANGES: There are several new numbers on the soundtrack that aren't featured in the Broadway musical: "Ladies' Choice", "Come So Far (Got So Far To Go)" and "The New Girl In Town" were all written for the movie - "The New Girl In Town" had at first been created for the musical but had been scrapped at the last minute. Also, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman wrote a reprise for "Big Blonde and Beautiful" to help enhance the movie-centric Edna/Wilbur/Velma conflict. The rest of the songs have been altered slightly from their stage versions for length or to fit the movie's scheme. Also, two songs from the stage production appear in altered versions: "Mama I'm a Big Girl Now" is sung girl-group style by the three women who brought Tracy to life most memorably - Nikki Blonsky (The 2007 movie Tracy), Marissa Jaret Winokur (The Tony-winning Broadway Tracy) and Ricki Lake (The 1987 movie Tracy). The song features a vocal cameo by Harvey Fierstein, Broadway's first Edna Turnblad. "Cooties", originally sung by Amber and the Council girls as they mock Tracy's downfall before the Miss Hairspray pagent, is reworked as a rock song by Aimee Allen. Both are heard during the credits. All songs were composed and written by Hairspray's Broadway book and music writers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman TRACK LISTING: (Original Pressing; name of actor/singer named first, followed by character part): 1: Good Morning Baltimore - Nikki Blonsky (Tracy Turnblad) 2: The Nicest Kids In Town - James Marsden and Chorus (Corny Collins and the Council) 3: It Takes Two - Zac Efron (Link Larkin) 4: (The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs - Michelle Pfeiffer (Velma Von Tussel) 5: I Can Hear The Bells - Nikki Blonsky (Tracy Turnblad) 6: Ladies' Choice - Zac Effron (Link Larkin) 7: The New Girl In Town - Brittany Snow and chorus (Amber Von Tussel, Shelley, Tammy; The Dynamites) 8: Welcome to the '60's - John Travolta and Nikki Blonsky and chorus (Edna and Tracy Turnblad; The Dynamites) 9: Run and Tell That - Elijah Kelley and Taylor Parks (Seaweed and Little Inez Stubbs and the Detention Kids) 10: Big, Blonde and Beautiful - Queen Latifah (Maybelle Stubbs) 11: Big, Blonde and Beautiful (Reprise): Queen Latifah, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer (Maybelle Stubbs, Edna Turnblad, Velma Von Tussel) 12: (You're) Timeless To Me - John Travolta and Christopher Walken (Edna and Wilbur Turnblad) 13: I Know Where I've Been - Queen Latifah (Maybelle Stubbs) 14: Without Love - Zac Efron, Nikki Blonsky, Elijah Kelley, Amanda Bynes and Chorus (Link Larkin, Tracy Turnblad, Seaweed Stubbs, Penny Pingleton, detention kids) 15: (It's) Hairspray - James Marsden (Corny Collins and Council Kids) 16: You Can't Stop The Beat - Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Elijah Kelley, John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Council Kids, Detention Kids (Tracy Turnblad, Link Larkin, Penny Pingleton, Seaweed Stubbs, Edna Turnblad, Maybelle Stubbs, council kids, detention kids) 17: Come So Far (Got So Far To Go) - Queen Latifah, Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley (Closing credits song; actors sing as themselves) 18: Cooties: Aimee Allen 19: Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now: Ricki Lake, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Nikki Blonsky (Featuring Harvey Fierstein) TRACK LISTING: (Special Edition Package): DISC 1: 1: Good Morning Baltimore - Nikki Blonsky (Tracy Turnblad) 2: The Nicest Kids In Town - James Marsden and Chorus (Corny Collins and the Council) 3: It Takes Two - Zac Efron (Link Larkin) 4: (The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs - Michelle Pfeiffer (Velma Von Tussel) 5: I Can Hear The Bells - Nikki Blonsky (Tracy Turnblad) 6: Ladies' Choice - Zac Effron (Link Larkin) 7: The New Girl In Town - Brittany Snow and chorus (Amber Von Tussel, Shelley, Tammy; The Dynamites) 8: Welcome to the '60's - John Travolta and Nikki Blonsky and chorus (Edna and Tracy Turnblad; The Dynamites) 9: Run and Tell That - Elijah Kelley and Taylor Parks (Seaweed and Little Inez Stubbs and the Detention Kids) 10: Big, Blonde and Beautiful - Queen Latifah (Maybelle Stubbs) 11: Big, Blonde and Beautiful (Reprise): Queen Latifah, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer (Maybelle Stubbs, Edna Turnblad, Velma Von Tussel) 12: (You're) Timeless To Me - John Travolta and Christopher Walken (Edna and Wilbur Turnblad) 13: I Know Where I've Been - Queen Latifah (Maybelle Stubbs) 14: Without Love - Zac Efron, Nikki Blonsky, Elijah Kelley, Amanda Bynes and Chorus (Link Larkin, Tracy Turnblad, Seaweed Stubbs, Penny Pingleton, council kids) 15: (It's) Hairspray - James Marsden (Corny Collins and Council Kids) 16: You Can't Stop The Beat - Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Elijah Kelley, John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Council Kids (Tracy Turnblad, Link Larkin, Penny Pingleton, Seaweed Stubbs, Edna Turnblad, Maybelle Stubbs, council kids) 17: Come So Far (Got So Far To Go) - Queen Latifah, Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley (Closing credits song; actors sing as themselves) 18: Cooties: Aimee Allen 19: Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now: Ricki Lake, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Nikki Blonsky (Featuring Harvey Fierstein) DISC 2: 1: I Can Wait - Nikki Blonsky (Tracy Turnblad) (Excised from final film; seen as deleted scene in extras on special edition DVD) 2: Breakout: Chester Gregory (Beatnick) (Heard on film as a record during the party in Maybelle's record store; originally set for use during cancelled prison break scene) 3: Boink-Boink: Arthur Adams (N.A.)
