Holly recorded this in May, 1957 with The Crickets at Norman Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico. This song is perhaps notable for its more recent popularity (it's been used a lot in commercials and in movies) and for its unusal choice in backing instruments; a celeste makes the magical tinkling chimelike noises, and Jerry Allison taps out the rythm of the song on his knees because the percussion seemed to harsh for such a quiet song. This is listed as being written by Charles Hardin and Norman Petty. Charles Hardin is actually Buddy Holly. His real name was Charles Hardin Holley. Twenty-seven years later in 1985, this became a #1 hit for singer/songwriter and guitarist James Taylor. Taylor's version is featured on his 1985 album That's Why I'm Here. This version won the 1985 Grammy Award for Song Of The Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The album won a Grammy Award for Album Of The Year. -songfacts.com
