A B O U T

Jeff Jarrett, a third-generation grappling star, was born in Hendersonville, Tennasee, on April 14th, 1967.

After a high school basketball carreer, Jeff followed his father and maternal grandfather's footsteps into the business right after graduating. He was trained by dad Jerry and international star Tojo Yamamoto and made his professional debut in April of 1986.

Jeff's first job was with his father's CWA promotion, which he began at the age of nineteen. When Jerry formed the USWA from the remenants of Fritz Von Erich's World Class promotion and the CWA, Jeff was pegged as a natural upper-mid-card babyface.

And so it was, from 1989 'til Jeff went to the WWF in 1994. He proved to be one of the premire hartthrobs for the teen girl set following the promotion, and was portrayed as a clean-living, good-natured babyface in the mold of the milk-drinking Von Erich sons. Ultimately, he won 10 USWA Southern Heavyweight Championships, and was one half of a USWA Tag Team Championship team on 15 occasions, his memorable feuds including such a rouge's gallery as "Dr" Tom Prichard, Eddie Gilbert, and the King himself, Jerry Lawler. But the USWA was a dying breed, and ultimately Jeff ended up with the WWF after years of working overseas and his father's Tennasea territories.

In the WWF, Jeff was initially promoted as "Double J" Jeff Jarrett, an egocentric country music star wannabe who thought the WWF would be his big step to the top. To accompish this, Double J both won the intercontinental championship in 1995 and released a single, "With My Baby Tonight" (The WWF legitimately offered the public a cassingle or CD of the song). His signature look was quite outrageous compared to his USWA days - LCD-flashing sunglasses and hat and tights in tropical colors. He would perform the Fargo Strut before and - if he was victorious - after every match, and he had two memorable catchphraes - "Ain't I Great?" and concluding interviews by spelling his name out ("That's J-E-Double-F J-A-Double-R E Double T. Double J! Jeff Jarrett!," followed by a musical "ting" as his teeth would gleam). It was Jeff's first time portraying a heel, and a role he would come to relish over the years.

After feuding with Razor Ramon and Bob Holly - and performing the song at an In Your House pay-per-view with Sawyer Brown - Jarrett dropped the belt to Ramon, only to gain it again and lose it within a few months. Unfortunately, the Double J character was so untalented that he was forced to lip-synch to the vocals of his underling - the aptly-named "Roadie", portrayed by another third-generation talent named Brian Armstrong. The two split up and feuded when the truth came out. A contract dispute made Jarrett a free agent in 1996.

Jeff surfaced in WCW, where he briefly played part in the NWO/Four Horsemen feud. After a United States Heavyweight title reign and a stay in the Horsemen, Jarrett turned heel again, feuding against the Horsemen's "Mongo" McMichael. This was the first time he worked with Debra McMichael, who would eventually become his valet in the WWF.

Back in the WWF in 1997, Jeff arrived just in time for the "Attitude" Era. He feuded with The Undertaker, then took part in the WWF's attempt to create their own cross-promotional feud with the NWA by using Jarrett in a feud with Barry Windham. When the angle ended, Jarrett was turned back into a country musician - an "edgy" country musician who hit people with his guitar and called them "slapnuts". Surrounded by Tennasee Lee, a new manager - portrayed by old USWA hand Robert Fuller - and Ron and Don Harris as Southern Justice, his bodyguards, Jarrett became a favorite of head writer Vince Russo and was pushed to a nice spot in the upper mid-card. The faction feuded with D-X, and in one match with X-Pac Jeff's fameous long blond locks were shorn, thus leading to him adopting his familiae short, spiky hairstyle.

Jarrett was soon placed in a tag team with Owen Hart. The twosome, managed again by Debra McMichael, seemed to have fun as a group and also seemed poised for a tag title reign when Hart was killed in a tragic accident at the 1999 Over The Edge pay per view.

This led to a quasi-domestic violence storyline with Jarrett seemingly abusing Debra. D-Lo brown stepped in to protect her, leading to the revleation that McMichael and Jarrett were only trying to fool him to get the "Euro-Continental" title (The merged European and Intercontinental belts). Jarrett rewarded Debra's work with the services of her own valet, "Miss Kitty" (Portrayed by Jarrett's old USWA mentor Lawler's then-wife, Stacy Carter).

Jarrett's role was changed from a mock-woman beater to that of a mysogenist who would put the figure-four leglock on his female opponents- all to set up a feud between himself and Chyna. He first turned on Debra, then turned on Miss Kitty, who became Chyna's sidekick. This was all leading, obviously, to Jarrett suffering some payback at the hands of Chyna - unfortunately, Jarrett's contract was coming up right about the time he was set to drop the Euro-Continental belt to her at No Mercy in an intergender match, and Russo - who had written so favorably for him for these past months and had recently left the company - had agreed to give him a plum role with WCW. Though an oversight caused his contract to lapse one day before he left the company, Jarrett did an admirable job losing to Chyna, though she later accused him of trying to collude with Russo to delay his title deffense past his contract and eventually bilking the WWE out of $250,000 for his services.

Jarrett joined WCW at the end of 1999, and was one of it's top stars during the promotion's tumultuous ride to the end. Jeff would be WCW's World Heavyweight Champion three times, and was lucky enough not to be subjected to most of the circus atmosphere enveloping the company at that time. Jeff was never far from the top of the company, which was unfortunate for him - when it finally was purchased by the WWE in 2001, thanks to the bad blood between himself and the WWE, his contract was not renewed.

Jeff bounced around the independent scene for a year before joining with his father to open J Sports and Entertainment, the backing company for the promotion TNA - Total Nonstop Action. It launched its first pay-per-view in 2002 - then a weekly affair-, and in May 2004 launched a television show on Spike TV. Eventually, that show expanded to two hours; eventually the pay-per-views went from weekly to monthly. Eventually, the company made household names of AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels. Eventually, the promotion was sold to Dixie Carter's Panda Energy, leaving Jeff a minority holder of the promotion he'd co-founded. But, perrenially, never far from the top slot was Jeff.

He would win the Heavyweight championship three more times before taking an indefinitive leave of absence from wrestling to deal with the death of his wife, Jill, who lost her long battle with breast cancer in 2007 at the age of 37 (she had been diagnosed in the late 90's).

JAfter numerous weeks of Jarrett's theme song playing and his guitar appearing on TNA programming, Jarrett returned to Impact! on September 11, 2008. At No Surrender, he would help Joe defeat Kurt Angle and Cage and assist Joe in retaining the TNA World Heavyweight Championship by hitting Angle with a guitar keeping him a face. The following Thursday, on Impact!, Jarrett cut his first promo since Slammiversary 2007, claiming that the current respect angle that Sting was involved in was actually a matter of the veterans refusing to pass the torch to the young guys. Angle came out and challenged Jarrett to a match at Bound for Glory IV, but Jarrett refused, saying he had nothing left to prove, and instead pointed to the screen to reveal the debuting Mick Foley. On the next edition of Impact, Jarrett relented to verbal cheap shots taken by Angle regarding Jarrett's children and accepted the match at Bound for Glory. The feud got more personal due to Angle mentioning Jarrett's wife, which lead to Foley being named the Special Enforcer for their match. At Bound for Glory Jarrett returned to the ring after nearly a two year absence, and defeated Angle using his Acoustic Equalizer.

On the November 20, 2008 edition of Impact!, Kurt Angle threatened Mick Foley and wanted another match against Jarrett at Final Resolution after Foley announced that it was Angle vs. Rhino at the event. Angle continued to demand a match with Jarrett and he said if he couldn't get him at Final Resolution, he would wrestle Foley. Angle then slapped Foley causing Jarrett to come out and talk about what Angle wanted (the match) and then what Jarrett wanted (Angle to be fired). Because of Angle's contract clause, Jarrett could not fire him, so he made this stipulation: if Angle lost to Rhino, he would be fired from TNA; if Angle beat Rhino, he would get Jarrett at Genesis 2009. Angle won, allowing him to face Jarrett at Genesis. The feud got even more personal when it started involving Jarrett's three daughters during the December 11, 2008 episode of Impact!. Angle said that they would become orphans after Genesis and that "Uncle Kurt" may find it in his heart to adopt them and make them his. Jarrett came out to confront him but was held back by his long time friend, BG James, TNA Personnel Terry Taylor, referee Earl Hebner, and Scott D'Amore. On January 11 at Genesis, Jarrett lost to Angle. Jeff suffered some injuries, but able to compete on the TNA Maxium iMPACT Tour, by facing against Kurt Angle in two singles and a few tag team matches with AJ Styles against Kurt Angle and Scott Steiner. Then on February 12, 2009, Jeff Jarrett returned to iMPACT to stop Kurt Angle forcing Sting to allowed Kurt to pin Sting and take an easy Championship victory. Sting knew that Jeff does not want it happened, but Sting accepted the challenge. The next week, Jeff allowed Kurt to have another match against Sting, called Empty Arena match. Then on February 26, 2009 Jeff Jarrett announced Kurt Angle vs. Sting at Destination X for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship with a contract signing later on with Kurt attacking Jeff after Kurt signed the contract.

TNA then announced that on April 14, 2009 the first-ever Jeff Jarrett DVD release would be a four-disc set, including his best TNA matches and moments, a lengthy and candid interview on his life, career and TNA Wrestling, rare photos, and guest commentary, among others. It was released and is titled "King of the Mountain". -wikipedia.com
